Become a Volunteer
Welcome to HOKA Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB®! Come join us and be part of trail running history. HOKA Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB cannot happen without our dedicated and passionate volunteers. For over 10 years, volunteers have helped grow our race into the global destination it has become. You all are truly the essence of this race. We are excited to have you help us put on 5 amazing events over 2 days! Don't worry - no previous experienced needed. Come join our Family!
Event Date: October 8-11, 2026
Event Location: Big Bear Lake, CA
All volunteers will receive a volunteer shirt, meal(s), and access to early volunteer registration for next year's event. We have some volunteer positions that require previous experience and/or a longer time commitment. Depending on the commitment of the position, volunteers may have access to additional benefits, such as sponsor swag and/or a complimentary entry and more.

Volunteer Incentives
Want to get more involved?
Some volunteer assignments require an extra level of commitment. We're adding additional opportunities for volunteers to earn incentive credit while helping us fill some of our most critical race-weekend roles.
Overnight Shifts — Earn 2X Credit
Take on a designated overnight shift and every hour you volunteer counts as two incentive hours.
For example:
8-hour overnight shift = 16 incentive hours
That means you could reach the Summit level through a single overnight commitment.
Remote Aid Stations — Earn 1.5X Credit
Volunteering at a designated remote aid station? You'll earn 1.5 incentive hours for every hour volunteered.
For example:
10-hour remote aid station shift = 15 incentive hours
It's our way of recognizing the additional commitment that comes with supporting some of our more remote race locations.
Volunteer More Than One Day
Coming back for another shift? We may have additional bonus opportunities for volunteers who support UTMB Kodiak across multiple days, including Basecamp and race-weekend assignments. Look for qualifying opportunities when you register.
Volunteer Raffle
Everyone who volunteers has a chance to win! For every 4 hours you volunteer, you'll receive one raffle entry for our Volunteer Appreciation Raffle. We'll be working with UTMB partners, sponsors, local businesses, and community partners to put together some great prizes — from running and outdoor gear to local experiences, meals, gift cards, and more. Raffle winners will be announced at the Volunteer Appreciation Party.
Not Interested in Racing? We've Got You.
We know that volunteering isn't just about earning a race entry. If you're here because you love the mountains, want to support the running community, or simply want to be part of UTMB Kodiak, we want to recognize your contribution, too. Additional non-racing rewards may include local meal vouchers, experiences, merchandise, and other special thank-you gifts.
Going Above & Beyond
Every year, there are volunteers who seem to be everywhere , taking on extra shifts, helping their fellow volunteers, stepping up when something unexpected happens, and bringing incredible energy to race weekend. We're excited to recognize one of these outstanding volunteers with our Volunteer of the Year The award will be presented at the Pancake Party and celebrates someone who truly embodies the spirit of the UTMB Kodiak volunteer community.
Thank You for Being Part of the Team
Whether you're volunteering for a few hours at Basecamp or spending the night at a remote aid station, every volunteer makes UTMB Kodiak possible. Thank you for showing up, supporting our athletes, and being part of the adventure.
