About the race
Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB offers runners the hospitality of a rustic, mountain town that sits just a couple hours from Los Angeles, California. With 2 days of racing and 5 distances, each course presents a unique running experience. Runners will enjoy views of Big Bear Lake throughout their journey – whether you’re climbing to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain or descending into Siberia Canyon, the courses will ‘wow’ you at every turn.

A Festival Weekend for Everyone
Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB is a two-day festival weekend with activities for you and your entire support crew. The start/finish line is in the heart of downtown Big Bear Lake where spectators will be cheering you on. The festival includes food and drinks from local vendors, a DJ playing your favorite tunes, and a parade through town to welcome you to the finish line.
Landscape variety throughout the race
Run through three different climates – high desert, sub alpine, and semi-arid – as you make your way through each course in the Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB. Each climate and landscape offer its own unique beauty, topography, and challenge along the route.
Mountain Charm
Big Bear Lake, California is the perfect destination for an alpine race. The town of Big Bear Lake welcomes visitors with open arms as you walk along the quaint main street village and explore the local shops. The town offers hikes, mountain bike trails, and plenty of water activities on the lake. Soak in the crisp mountain air while you enjoy the views of Big Bear Lake in the background.
Dual Qualifier
Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB is a dual qualifier for UTMB® World Series Finals and the Western States Endurance Run. Finishers have the opportunity to qualify for two of the most iconic races in trail running.
UTMB Cares US
Through UTMB Cares US, we have set out to achieve something extraordinary by caring for the amazing environments that host our trail events. UTMB Cares US is a program of The IRONMAN Foundation. Since 2003, over $55 million has been provided through IRONMAN and IRONMAN Foundation charitable giveback programs to more than 10,000 local, regional, national, and global nonprofit initiatives. Including $50,000 in grant funding for clean-up and restoration efforts of the Western States Trail, enjoyed by The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB®️ runners, in partnership with Western States Endurance Run and The Tevis Cup. Together, we are on a quest to engage our community and care for our race surroundings through grant funding and volunteerism efforts.
